Description:
On the 20th anniversary of the Jerusalem String Quartet's formation, the album includes No. 2, which includes a fiery second movement reminiscent of Bartók's Arabic accent, No. 4, which skillfully blends folk music and avant-garde, and No. 6, a masterpiece written in the heartbreak of his soon-to-be-deceased mother and the rise of fascism. This program is a reminder that Bartók composed six string quartets between 1909 (No. 1) and 1939 (No. 6), which are said to reflect the turning points and changes in his life and style. The Jerusalem String Quartet has been active worldwide since its debut in 1996 (in 2011, the viola section was replaced by Ori Kamm (now with the Berlin Philharmonic)). The quartet's sense of balance in keeping the beautiful singing voice alive even in Bartók's characteristic intense rhythmic passages is indeed impressive. King International
