The Vienna Philharmonic's magnificent waltzes and polkas to celebrate the new year. A magical and blissful time spun by the genuine Austrian, Welser-Möst. The Vienna Philharmonic New Year's Concert is held every year on January 1. The concert, which began in 1939 and boasts a history of more than 75 years, features the iconic Viennese waltzes and polkas of the Strauss family, the symbol of Vienna's musical capital, as well as the famous "New Year's Eve Concert. In 2023, Franz Welser-Möst, a native Austrian, will appear for the first time in 10 years (since 2011 and 2013). Welser-Möst is one of the conductors most closely associated with the Vienna Philharmonic, and since his great-grandfather owned the café where the Strauss family gave concerts, Strauss is in his blood and repertoire. Franz Welser-Möst (conductor) was born in Linz, Austria in 1960. He studied at the music school in his hometown and aspired to become a violinist, but due to an accident, he switched to conducting and studied at the Munich University of Music. Starting with the Norrkoping Symphony Orchestra in Sweden, he has held posts with the London Philharmonic Orchestra and the Zurich Opera House, and is currently the Music Director of the Cleveland Orchestra.
