A compilation of all recordings by Jaime Laredo, a renowned violinist who has supported the backbone of American music since the late 20th century, for both the RCA and Columbia labels. Released to commemorate Jaime Laredo's 80th birthday! Born in Cochabamba, Bolivia in 1941, violinist and violist Jaime Laredo began his musical career at the age of five, entering North America in 1948 to study with Antonio DeGrasse and Frank Hauser. He later moved to Cleveland, where he studied with Josef Gingold in 1953, and then with Ivan Galamian at the Curtis Institute of Music. He also took private lessons with Pablo Casals and George Szell, winning the Queen Elisabeth International Music Competition in 1959, which brought him international attention, and a recital at Carnegie Hall in October 1960, which was acclaimed as a passionate and sophisticated performance, In 1961, she appeared at the Royal Albert Hall in London. Since then, he has performed with major orchestras around the world. He has also performed and recorded numerous times as viola player in piano quartets with such virtuosos as Emanuel Ax, Isaac Stern, and Yo-Yo Ma, and has recorded almost the entire repertoire of Beethoven, Mozart, Schumann, Fauré, and Brahms' works for Sony Classical.Brahms: Piano Quartets Nos. 1 & 2" won the 34th Grammy Award in the category of Best Chamber Music in 1992. This box set is a birthday present to Laredo, who turns 80 on June 7, 2021, and includes all of his solo and chamber music recordings for both RCA and Columbia-Sony Classical labels. The collection includes his RCA recordings (CDs 1-4), beginning with his debut album (CD 1) recorded shortly after winning the Queen Elisabeth International Music Competition in 1959, chamber music and concertos recorded at the Marlborough Festival with Alexander Schneider and Rudolf Serkin (CDs 5-8, 11, and 14), and Bach's complete violin sonatas with the legendary Glenn Gould (CDs 13, 14, and 15). The CDs include the complete violin sonatas (CDs 9 and 10), and chamber works from the 1980s and 1990s with Isaac Stern, Yo-Yo Ma, Emanuel Ax, and others (CDs 12, 13, 16-22), including a recording made at Suntory Hall in November 1986. The CD also includes a number of masterful performances of chamber works by Yo-Yo Ma, Emanuel Ax, and others (CDs 12, 13, 16, and 22). A separate all-color commentary includes comments by Yo-Yo Ma and Emanuel Ax as well as a track listing with detailed recording data and artist photos.Each disc is enclosed in a paper jacket with artwork design from the first US release and housed in a cardboard clamshell box (Size: L 12.8 cm x W 12.7 cm x H 6 cm).
