True North" is the 11th album by Norwegian avant-garde black metal pioneers BORKNAGAR. The band's unique world has been created by absorbing elements of black metal, progressive rock, and folk from their early days. Today, the band has established a solid position as a progressive black metal band not only in Norway but also in Europe. The band is also a veteran of 25 years of activity, which blossomed with their last album "Winter Thrice" (2016), which was highly acclaimed in all quarters for its spectacular sound inspired by the Norwegian wilderness. Since then, the band has locked down its members and spent three years working on its next effort, the result of which is the current album, True North. The band has undergone several member changes over the past few years, including the departure of vocalist Vintersorg, but this masterpiece shows no signs of the effects of those changes! The production process of going back to the roots also paid off. While the previous album was a division of labor, with each member working independently in their own studios, this album was the result of an unprecedentedly close and focused effort by all members, resulting in the exchange of many different ideas.In addition, the use of a rural studio and the freedom from budget and time constraints allowed the band ample time to give each song its own unique personality and atmosphere. The result is a solid, solidly produced album with a strong lineup of songs while maintaining consistency. The other members of the band were also actively involved in the songwriting process, with Lars writing three songs and Vortex one song. In the end, 12 to 13 songs were written, and nine were carefully selected to be included in this album. Mixing was done by Jens Bogren (OPETH, AMON AMARTH, DRAGONFORCE, SOILWORK, PARADISE LOST), who is considered by the band to be one of the best engineers in the metal world, and who is absolutely trusted for his approach to the given material, as on previous albums. Band founder Oystein G. Brun says, "Back in the day, the band's goal was nothing more than to make music that we liked. At the time, the idea of making money from music, traveling the world, and playing big festivals seemed out of reach. But I still had the belief that really good music has the power to move mountains. As a result of this belief, BORKNAGAR has become an inspiration to many metal fans. The title of this album, "True North," means "the direction to go, the destination to reach.BORKNAGAR may have finally found that point.
