Description:

A monument to Bernstein's youthful interpretation of Beethoven, newly remixed and remastered for the first time in 27 years with all-new sound quality! The album comes alive with the vivid "360 sound" of the heyday of analog music. To commemorate the 250th anniversary of Beethoven's birth, this collection contains all of Beethoven's symphonies, orchestral works, and vocal works recorded by Leonard Bernstein, the greatest genius conductor of the 20th century, who conducted the New York Philharmonic from 1958 to 1970. The "Seventh Symphony" is included in both 1958 and 1964 recordings, and the 1956 narrative about the Fifth Symphony, "The Making of 'Fate,'" is also included. Bernstein, one of the most important interpreters of Beethoven in the 20th century, continued to perform Beethoven's works throughout his life and made numerous recordings. Bernstein was one of the most important Beethoven interpreters of the 20th century. In Japan, his recordings with the Vienna Philharmonic in the late 1970s have come to be highly acclaimed, but in this Beethoven with the New York Philharmonic ten years earlier, the variety of expression and unrestrained power of the passionate energy that is his greatest appeal is so overwhelming. As was customary with major American orchestras of the time, the recordings were basically made in conjunction with the actual subscription concerts of the New York Philharmonic. The first recording of Symphony No. 7 was made in October 1958 in the ballroom of the St. George Hotel, which was used for recording for a very short period of time. This recording was made shortly after Bernstein, who became the sole music director of the New York Philharmonic in that season, opened the season with the Seventh, and it is a dramatic and confident performance that has a strong following in Japan. This was followed by "Missa solemnis" in April 1960 (also a dramatic performance, recorded on the same day as Mahler's "Ode to the Earth" conducted by Walter), and from 1961 to 1964, nine symphonies were recorded one after the other, including the re-recording of No. 7. The overtures were recorded and released individually, and in 1970, the year of the bicentennial of Beethoven's birth, "Egmont" was recorded and re-released together, and the jacket is used when it was re-released. The Bernstein narration and performance examples on DISC 4 are based on a monaural recording made in 1956 and featured on the first episode (November 14, 1954) of "Omnibus," the CBS Network television program that made Bernstein's name famous.Standing on a large projection of the score on the studio floor, Bernstein eloquently discussed the work while also playing the piano, a precursor to the "Young People's Concerts" that followed. The recording of this narrative and partial performance was originally released on LP in combination with a performance by the New York Philharmonic conducted by Walter. Seven of the ten discs were newly remixed and remastered at 24bit/192kHz from the original 3-track masters. The three CDs of No. 3, No. 5, and the Overtures were remastered from the "Bernstein Remastered" remastered sources released in 2018. It is believed to be the first time in almost 28 years that the original three tracks have been remixed and remastered from the original three tracks. The result is a vibrant revival of Columbia's vaunted "360 sound" from the late 1950s through the 1960s that seems to juxtapose detail and brilliance.Size: L 13.5cm x W 13.5cm x H 2.6cm Sony Music
