Description:

Goebel's second special project "Beethoven's World", featuring two young masters of the Berlin Philharmonic cello section, is an extremely difficult concerto for two cellos! Two world premiere recordings are included! Reinhard Goebel, founder of Musica Antiqua Cologne and a world-renowned interpreter of Beethoven's music, presents the special project "Beethoven's World" for the 250th anniversary of Beethoven's birth. Despite the title of "Beethoven's World," the project is not limited to Beethoven's works, but rather focuses on unknown works by Beethoven's contemporaries, including many world premiere recordings, which is typical of Goebel's genius. The first release of this series, featuring two concertos by Franz Clement, who premiered Beethoven's violin concerto with the virtuoso Mirjam Konzen, has created a worldwide sensation. The second album in the series features two cellists from the Berlin Philharmonic and includes two concerto works for cello by Beethoven's contemporaries, Leja (Reicher) and Romberg.Antonín Leja (1770-1836) was a Czech composer and music theorist. Born in the same year as Beethoven, in 1785 Leja moved to Bonn as a flutist in the court orchestra of Elector Maximilian of Cologne, where he met Beethoven, a viola player in the same orchestra. After the occupation of Bonn by the French Revolutionary army and the dismantling of the court orchestra, he moved to Hamburg to become a piano and composition teacher. He studied under Haydn and was influenced by the Mannheim School, Gluck, and Mozart. Originally a flutist, he left many works for wind instruments, including woodwind quintets, and is known as a pioneer in this field. As a professor of composition at the Paris Conservatory, he has trained Liszt, Berlioz, Gounod, Franck, and others. (1/2) Sony Music
