Warner Classics and the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra sign a multi-year contract! The first of these is a Beethoven album! Rahaf Shani, who is also active as a conductor, was born in 1989. He studied piano and contrabass in Israel and made his debut as a pianist with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra in 2007, joined the orchestra as a contrabassist in 2010, and made his conducting debut in 2013. In 2013, he won the first prize at the Gustav Mahler International Conducting Competition. He is currently Principal Guest Conductor of the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra and the Vienna Symphony Orchestra, and has been appointed Music Director of the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra from 2020. On the occasion of the extension of his tenure as Principal Guest Conductor of the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra until 2026, this album celebrates the 250th anniversary of Beethoven's birth in 2019 and showcases his skills not only as a conductor but also as a pianist. Unlike the period playing of today, Rahav Shani's performance is a slow, romantic narrative that reveals Beethoven's curious compositional methods and his vibrant, engaging music without ever resorting to novel techniques.The same performance by this duo in 2019 was highly acclaimed, saying, "If the Beethoven Anniversary Year performance is as fresh and inspired an interpretation as we have heard from Rahav Shani and his orchestra, there will be no boredom in concert halls around the world."
