CD of the Village Vanguard live performance of Enrico Pieranunzi, one of the greatest piano poets of our time! The first time he performed on the Village Vanguard stage as a leader artist was in 2010. The stage was the "Live at the Village Vanguard". Enrico himself expressed his shaking excitement at being able to perform at the Vanguard, the Jazz Hall of Fame, and after his second appearance in 2013, he performed for the third time in April 2015. The new attraction of this year's event is that it is the first of two previous performances. The new attraction of this year's event is that, unlike the previous two, it is now a quartet formation. Moreover, the frontman of the quartet is Danny McCaslin, the hottest saxophonist in the world today. McCaslin, who has been active in David Bowie's backing band and is also gaining recognition for his electric style, is a player who can sing complex phrases with a tuneful performance, while at the same time keeping the jazz tradition as the foundation. His flexible and dynamic playing, which is never bound by formality, contrasts beautifully with Enrico Pieranunzi's playing. In Enrico Pieranunzi's career, most of the wind instrumentalists he has played with have been European players with European tastes, but in his masterpiece "Fellini Jazz," Chris Potter joined the ensemble. Although the combination may seem unexpected at first glance, Enrico is a good match for an artist with intelligence and intuitive spontaneity/bone strength. With the exception of two songs, all of the pieces on this program are by Enrico Pieranunzi. It is interesting to note that the music is entirely original, a change from his first appearance, which included bluesy performances, starting with a Thelonious Monk number. The performance on M4 "Permutations," which also became the title of the work and strongly impressed the audience with the start of the New Trio, is especially worth listening to. While Pieranunzi's sharply angular phrasing on the piano was countered by McCaslin, who blasted out a series of undulating phrases as if he were drilling a hole through the piano! Looking back, Danny McCaslin was the drummer for Enrico Pieranunzi's current core trio, Antonio Sanchez, and also fronted the Sanchez Band.Enrico Pieranunzi, who has a delicate and aesthetic world of course, but also shows his personality by crossing over to the contemporary members of New York, proves once again that he is a leading contemporary artist beyond the borders of the country.
