Beethoven (1770-1827)

Description:

-Newly remastered in 2010 - First appearance of the authentic sound source! Live with Ancell & Czech Philharmonic Orchestra. Richter's Beethoven Concertos Beginning with Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 20 at the Prague Spring Festival in 1950 and ending with Grieg's Piano Concerto in 1993, performances in Prague have been an important part of Richter's musical life. The Beethoven concertos performed live in Prague in 1956 and 1962, both with Ancell and the Czech Philharmonic, have been previously released on other labels, but they are now out of print and have long been hard to find. Richter's favorite Beethoven concertos are the first and third concertos, and since he has made many recordings of these concertos, it is safe to say that the repertoire is well-crafted and superb.Richter also recorded No. 1 with the Brno National Orchestra under Baccarat in 1956, the Boston Symphony Orchestra under Munsch in 1960 (session and live on two different dates), the Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra under Kondrashin in 1962, and the Schleswig-Holstein Festival Orchestra under Eschenbach in 1988. The third recording includes this recording. The following recordings are known: Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra under Rowicki in 1954, Brno National Orchestra under Baccarat in 1956, Vienna Symphony Orchestra under Sanderling in 1962, RAI Symphony Orchestra under Pedrotti in 1962 (not released), Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra under Kondrashin in 1963, and Philharmonia Orchestra under Muti in 1977.The performance has now been re-mastered from the original master tapes in the collection of the Czech Broadcasting Corporation, bringing the performance even closer to the passionate exchange between Ancell and the audience.
