Karol Szymanowski (1882-1937) makes his first appearance in Chandos' Musica Polska series, which discovers and presents music from Eastern Europe. The powerful trio of Louis Lortie, Edward Gardner, and the BBC Symphony Orchestra recorded his last major work "Symphony No. 4 "Concerto Symphony""! Symphony No. 4 was completed in Zakopane in the Tatra Mountains in 1932 by Szymanowski, who had resigned as director of the Warsaw Conservatory, as his "last symphony" and was composed as a "concerto symphony" for piano. The "Fourth Symphony," which demands a high degree of virtuosity from the pianist and features a stunning finale, is expected to be a terrific performance by Louis Lortie, a renowned Canadian pianist of whom Chandos is proud.The excellent combination of Edward Gardner, the young music director of the English National Opera, and the BBC Symphony Orchestra has been proven in previous collections of Lutoslawski's orchestral works, and the lineup is perfect!
