--It's like playing with the Avengers. The up-and-coming leaders of the contemporary jazz scene come together as a quartet for the first time in 26 years! Joshua Redman, Brad Meldor, Christian McBride, and Brian Braid announce "ROUNDAGAIN," their first new album in 26 years, since 1994's "MOODSWING"! Saxophonist Joshua Redman, pianist Brad Meldor, bassist Christian McBride, and drummer Brian Braid are currently leading the jazz scene. The original members of the Joshua Redman Quartet have come together for the first time in 26 years since 1994's "MOODSWING". The new album "ROUNDAGAIN" will be released. This was Joshua Redman's first time as bandleader of this quartet, but he was only active for about a year and a half. He says, "I realized pretty quickly that this band couldn't be together for very long. I soon realized that the band wouldn't be together for long, as they were arguably the most outstanding and innovative players of their generation on their respective instruments.They were already sought after at the time, and everyone wanted to work with them! And since all three of them had strong and charismatic musicianship - I knew that they would eventually explore their own musical visions. I know more than anyone how lucky I was to be in a band with them, even if it was only for a short time," he says of the quartet. But that is not to say that Redman and the other four have not had musical interactions over the past 20-plus years. In various ways and on various occasions, two or three of the four have played together, but never all together as a quartet, he says. Redman says of this, "I never thought it would happen, but it just never did. We knew it was going to happen, we just didn't know when. We were all very busy, and we needed a certain amount of time in terms of scheduling and creatively. The four members came together again to produce "Roundagain," a seven-song album featuring three Redman songs, two Meldor songs, one McBride song, and one Braid song, all original compositions.Twenty-six years ago, the group was just a young act on the New York jazz scene, but now they have grown to become one of the leaders of the contemporary jazz scene. If it had been me, I would have made it happen 10 years ago," says Brad Meldor. Josh, Christian, and Brian are my heroes. It's like playing with the Avengers."
