Description:
This album showcases the expressive range and rich timbre of the alto and bass flutes through works by three contemporary composers. Amanda Harberg’s *Firefly Triptych* was written as a journey into a nocturnal world framed by the magic of fireflies, progressing from the first movement, which heads into a deep forest; to the second movement, imbued with the spiritual aura of a solitary hour; and finally to a celebratory finale with hints of bluegrass. Alissa Mercedes Mena’s *Hasta La Raiz* was born out of isolation and introspection during the pandemic; starting from family roots, it eventually shifts its focus to the emotional roots that shape humanity. Daniel Dorf’s three works were commissioned by NeSterNDuo; their ethereal quality, jazz-infused hues, and the graceful waltz of swans vividly convey the lyricism, color, and rhythmic vitality of the bass flute.
