Description:

Hiromi Uehara's new project is a duo with the amazing harpist Edmar Castaneda! This is a vacuum-packed version of the blazing stage performance at a Canadian jazz festival where they had a fateful encounter. After five years of performing with The Trio Project and Akiko Yano, Hiromi Uehara has launched a new duo project with jazz harpist Edmar Castaneda. Edmar Castaneda is from Colombia, South America, and currently based in New York. He is one of the world's best active jazz harpists, attracting attention for his superb and passionate playing of melodies, chords, and bass lines at the same time. The two met on June 30, 2016. When Uehara performed at the Montreal Jazz Festival in Canada, he saw Edmar's performance from the side of the stage before his own performance, and their exchange began. The following month, at the end of July, Edmar joined Uehara as a guest for two days at his Blue Note New York concert, and their first collaboration was quickly realized. The duo's chemistry was such that they both said they "felt a sense of destiny," and decided to launch this duo project in earnest. The two began a world tour in May 2017, including a six-day run at the Blue Note New York in June, which has thrilled audiences around the world. This album is vacuum-packed from their stage performance at the same Montreal Jazz Festival on June 30, 2017, exactly one year after their encounter, along with the excitement of the audience. In addition to each other's original compositions, including "The Elements," a four-part suite written by Uehara for this project, the album includes "Cantina Band (Bar Band)" from the movie "Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope" and a cover of "Libertango" by tango master Astor Piazzolla. The album includes a cover of "Libertango" by tango master Astor Piazzolla. The improvisations, in which the two bands' inspirations collide with each other at a high level, are truly unpredictable! The percussive, intense, deep, and beautiful sound of the two instruments, piano and harp, is at times orchestral in its dynamics and breadth.
