A monochrome world is gently colored with gentle sounds on this 2022 album by Natalie Evans, a London, UK-based SSW artist who is taking her music to a new stage. The soft vocals and beautiful chorus work are unforgettable once you hear them. The lyrics, which are written like a diary of her daily life and faint memories in a fantastic daydream, are gently enveloped by the piano, acoustic guitar, harp, and other instruments that she plays herself. It has the simplicity of folk singer Gregory And The Hawk and the delicacy and familiarity that resonate with contemporaries such as Phoebe Bridgers and Julien Baker. But that is not the only appeal of this album. Four years have passed since their last album, "Better At Night," in which they made use of their familiar emo/post-rock fingerpicking style to create a pop album with a band sound as its main instrument. While based on an acoustic sound, "At Night" is a graceful and sophisticated work with impressive piano and harp-driven tracks that are different from the previous album. The album features "Driving At Home," with its shining soundscape of piano and guitar, an instrumental piece that makes you close your eyes and immerse yourself, and "To Go On," with its light, early-summer smell. The final song, "Guest Room," is a song that evokes feelings of sadness and peace, sung with a supple, flowing piano touch.The unique and tugging melodies are full of originality, blending the indie-emo and mass rock sound styles that Natalie herself has been exposed to with a folk-like sound. In the midst of the global pandemic, Natalie Evans has sharpened her sensibilities and created this album with a free spirit, sometimes folky, sometimes ambient, and sometimes colorless. The harp, piano, and guitar colors this sometimes folky, sometimes ambient world that seems to have lost its color. Facing one's own mind and memories, the message may seem small at the moment, suggesting that "what is happening here and now is not in vain, and will surely lead to the future. The message may be small at the moment, but it will surely bring healing and a positive feeling to those who listen to it.
