Description:

Colin Currie Group 20th Anniversary A commemorative year celebrating Reich's 90th birthday The ultimate Reich collection arrives! Colin Currie Records presents the quintessential Reich collection. A program united by the common thread of "Hexachord." The expansion and contraction of rhythmic waves, their fluid movement, the clarity of the harmonies, and the meditative world woven from all these elements are realized in an unparalleled sonic form. Released to coincide with Steve Reich's 90th birthday (October) in 2026 and the Colin Currie Group's 20th anniversary. The "Sextet" is performed by two keyboard players (two pianos, two synthesizers) and four percussionists (three marimbas, two vibraphones [bowed], two bass drums, crotales, click sticks, tam-tams), and is one of Reich's most iconic works. Double Sextet, composed in 2007 and awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Music in 2009, is a masterpiece. Six Marimbas (1986) is a reworking for marimbas of Six Pianos (1973). Its hypnotic movement through time is captivating. Of particular note is Dance Patterns (2002). This piece was composed for choreographer Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker and filmmaker Thierry Daeme. Daeme had completed a one-hour film based on De Keersmaeker's choreographic work Counterphrase (2002), and commissioned several composers to create 5-6 minute pieces to match the completed film sections. Reich's piece, performed by two pianos, two vibraphones, and two xylophones, lasts approximately six minutes. Colin Currie and the ensemble bring their own fresh interpretation, highlighting Reich's enduring fascination with movement and patterns. With Reich reportedly composing a new work for Colin Currie, future developments promise to be even more compelling. COLIN CURRIE RECORDS
