Polish Cello Works from Chopin to the Present! A CD featuring cello pieces by Polish composers. Szymanowski’s Violin Sonata, composed in 1904, is a masterpiece still brimming with Romanticism. When played on the cello, its tender, emotional depth is heightened, making it truly beautiful. Lutosławski’s “Sacher Variations” were written to celebrate the 70th birthday of Swiss conductor Paul Sacher (1906–1999). Krzysztof Meyer (1943–) is one of the leading contemporary Polish composers. Finally, Chopin’s Cello Sonata. Luca Fiorentini is a cellist born in Venice, Italy, in 1966. He studied under Rocco Filippini at the Milan Conservatory. He formerly served as a cellist with the Vienna Philharmonic (and, consequently, the Vienna State Opera Orchestra). He later became principal cellist of the La Scala Orchestra in Milan. While Italian cellists are often associated with a bright, resonant, and song-like sound, Fiorentini’s cello playing is refined and possesses a deep, contemplative quality. Jakub Tchorzewski (not to be confused with Tchorzewski) is a Polish pianist. He is known for actively showcasing the works of overlooked Polish composers, and his performances are deeply sincere and rich in nuance. Tobu Shoji Co., Ltd.
