The Royal Netherlands Naval Band & RCO soloists! The prestigious military band of the Royal Netherlands Navy, founded in 1945, is now available from Channel Classics! Masterpieces written for military band by great Russian composers such as Rimsky=Korsakov, Stravinsky, Prokofiev, and Shostakovich. Rimsky-Korsakov's Trombone Concerto, Clarinet Concerto, and Oboe Variations feature soloists Bart Klaessens (tb), Alexei Ogrynchuk (ob), and Olivier Patey (cl), principal players of the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra. Conducting is Arjan Tien, who has been the Music Director and Chief Conductor of the Royal Netherlands Naval Military Band since 2017. The Royal Netherlands Naval Military Band has had close ties with Russia in the past, including a tour for the 300th anniversary of the city of St. Petersburg and the participation of President Medvedev in a concert in Amsterdam.This is a selection of great Russian wind band masterpieces, including Bortnyansky's hymn "Kol Sraven," which has been traditionally sung by the Dutch Navy.
