Bill O'Connell, a pianist and arranger who has consistently released new works in a variety of formats on the Savant label. He is joined by his longtime friend, drummer Steve Jordan, who has played on many of Bill O'Connell's albums. Every Bill O'Connell album is based on a concept. Each of my albums is a snapshot moment, so to speak, of how each of the musicians feels at a particular time in my life: recording," O'Connell says. And each song reflects a different emotion at a particular moment," says O'Connell. The songs on the album have a bright sound, with funk, blues, samba, and calypso rhythms.The album is full of highlights, including "Sun for Sonny," reminiscent of Sonny Rollins' St. Thomas; "A Prayer for Us" and "Chaos," which reflect on the racial and political turmoil in America, COVID-19, and many other issues; and the funk-tinged "My Foolish Heart," the last track on the album.
