Live at the NY Village Vanguard in March 2016 by Bill Frisell, a leading guitarist in the contemporary music scene whose duo album Small Town was released to great acclaim in 2017, and bassist Thomas Morgan, a close friend despite being from a different generation. This is the first release of the new album. This masterful recording captures the intimate musical exchange between the two players captured on "Small Town," once again, this time in the presence of an audience, and features poetic songs from their beloved Americana songbook ("All in Fun," "Red River Valley," "Last Dance is for Me"), as well as a selection of songs that the two have often performed together, such as "Paul's Prayer," "The Last Dance is for Me," "The Last Dance is for Me," "The Last Dance is for Me," and "The Last Dance is for Me. The two also captured poetic songs such as their beloved Americana songbook ("All in Fun," "Red River Valley," "Last Dance is for Me"), another version of Paul Motian's composition "Mumbo Jumbo," with which they have often collaborated, as well as Billy Strayhorn's "Lush Life" and Frank Sinatra's hit "In The Wee Small Hours Of The Morning. The show captured the famous words seemingly floating in the air even without the singer.Then, in the middle of the album, we have Monk's funky "Epistrophy" and the ruminative ballad "Pannonica," both from the James Bond film "James Bond Dies Twice. And just as "Small Town" featured "Goldfinger," the title track from John Barry's "James Bond Dies Twice," which is rich in melody from the James Bond films!
