First quartet work in two years from the young prodigy jazz pianist who has been praised by maestro Keith Jarrett and will lead the next generation of ECM. The first work in two years from 33-year-old jazz pianist Shai Maestro, one of the hottest names in the Israeli jazz scene today and praised by master Keith Jarrett, who made his ECM debut with "The Dream Thief" in 2018. The quartet features his friend Jorge Roeder (b), with whom he has worked for nine years and who has played on all four of his previous albums, and fellow Israeli drummer Ofri Nehemiah (ds), one of the most promising young drummers of his generation, along with American trumpeter Philip Disak, who is also a member of the quartet. This is a quartet work. The quartet plays mainly originals, beautifully and sometimes dynamically. A quick-thinking approach to improvisation, and the maestro respects a sense of tradition while moving the music forward. The quartet explores a variety of temperaments in their original compositions, and has created a unique arrangement of Duke Ellington's "In a Sentimental Mood."In addition, Shai's song "Hank and Charlie" pays tribute to the late Hank Jones and Charlie Haden's musical sympathy.
