The NOVO Quartet, winners of the Geneva International Music Competition 2023, make their debut recording. The name "Novo" means "new" and reflects the spirit of exploration and discovery of the members. Their debut album, "Track 1," is a selection of music that takes the quartet back to their roots. The Shostakovich String Quartet No. 8 was the first work the four of them studied together. The composer of the first contemporary work they worked on was Matthias Vestergaard. Vestergaard is a young composer who is taking Denmark by storm, and "HJERTEBLAD" (literal translation: "heart leaf," the first leaf of a seed), recorded here, is Vestergaard's third string quartet. It is a work that depicts the process of plant growth, especially the blooming, fading, withering, and melancholy parting of a flower. And the String Quartet No. 1 by Carl Nielsen, a hero to the Danish people, is a tribute to Nielsen.The high-density sound produced by their intense playing, perfect balance, and wholehearted commitment is breathtaking.
