A new project by “KAIROS,” one of the world’s leading contemporary music labels based in Austria, and “Klangform Wien,” Austria’s premier ensemble specializing in contemporary music, based at the Vienna Konzerthaus. This is one of the recordings from the “Solo” series—a collection of works for solo performers—that Klangform Wien produced in response to the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic. Toshio Hosokawa (b. 1955) is one of Japan’s leading contemporary composers, having studied composition in Germany under Yisang Yun, Brian Farnihough, and Klaus Huber; his new works consistently generate significant buzz. Toshio Hosokawa, who has created a unique musical language through the fusion of Western avant-garde art and traditional Japanese culture, composed this solo work for piano, oboe, cello, harp, violin, clarinet, and percussion.
