Walker, George (1922-2018)
Description:
Walker is known as the first black composer to win the Pulitzer Prize, a great black composer who pioneered his own style by maintaining a seriousness. He originally debuted as a pianist and is best known for his performance of Rachmaninoff's Concerto No. 3 with the Philadelphia Orchestra conducted by Ormandy. Since that time, he has also been active as a composer, producing a string quartet and symphony after symphony, which have also been highly acclaimed. In 2000, he was inducted into the American Classical Music Hall of Fame. The music here is serious and not very accessible, but if you take the time to listen to it, you will gradually become absorbed in the splendor of the music. Naxos Japan
