The birthplace of the blues: the Mississippi Delta in the southern United States. Mississippi Fred McDowell (1904-72), a master of the slide guitar, is known as one of the great masters of the Delta blues. In the 1960s, when he was discovered as an undiscovered treasure of the Delta Blues, he produced numerous masterpieces filled with complex rhythms and poetic sentiment with his unrivaled hypnotic slide guitar playing technique and powerful singing voice. The work presented here is a collection of his recordings for Arhoolie Records from 1964 and 1965. The Rolling Stones covered "You Gotta Move" on their album "Sticky Fingers" (released in 1971).
