Description:
This is the third and final reprint of Abravanel's collection of Grieg's orchestral works. Throughout the series, the performances are not overly expressive, yet the melodies sing well and are dynamic and lively, allowing the audience to immerse themselves in the charms of the music with ease. The piano concerto at the beginning of the concerto is performed with Grant Johannessen, a native of Salt Lake City, Utah, the home of the Utah Symphony. He studied with Robert Casadoche, Egon Petry, and Nadia Boulanger, and his recordings for VOX include modern French works. The piano has a low center of gravity and the bass resonates well, but the sound is not clustered and is well separated, thanks to the skill of the recording engineer, Mark Aubort. The new remastering has improved the S/N ratio and removed the hardness. The booklet reproduces the jacket and commentary of the original release. Naxos Japan
