A new recording of Handel's young masterpiece oratorio from the forefront of the British ancient instrumental performance scene! Before moving to London to dominate the world of opera at breakneck speed, Handel spent his youth at the opera house in Hamburg and then in Italy, where he cultivated his artistry by experiencing firsthand the real world of dramatic music. One of the great successes of his youth was the oratorio "Resurrection," premiered in Rome in 1708. Centering on two Marys lamenting the death of Jesus (not the Virgin Mary), the oratorio sings about the resurrection of Jesus in the absence of the Virgin Mary, and goes to the heart of the Christian faith. At the premiere, master musician Corelli played the violin and led the orchestra. The music is full of ups and downs, following the precedent of 17th century Italian composers such as Stradella and Alessandro Scarlatti, but already Handel's eloquent use of sound can be seen, including not a few numbers that would be transferred to his later works.While there are many ambitious and masterful performances on existing recordings, this new recording by English Concert, led by the versatile conductor Bicket, who will lead the British classical music world in the 21st century, is a fascinating work that excels in both cutting-edge freshness and solid interpretive design, and will give you the full pleasure of experiencing this masterpiece. The bass continuo is accompanied by a theorbo and two keyboards, and the string section is 6/6/3/3/3/2, which is large for a work from the early 18th century. While the young members are prominent as a whole, veterans such as Mark Bennett, a trumpet player from the Pinnock era, Riza Beznosiuk on traverso, and Jonathan Munson on gamba also show exquisite performance, as well as the reliable and famous singer Lucy Crowe, and the British countertenor The solo singers, including the reliable Lucy Crowe and the dominant British countertenor, Yestyn Davies, also bring a solid presence to each of their roles.
