Georg Gagnize, a baritone from Georgia. He won the “Voice of Verdi” competition in 2005, made his Metropolitan Opera debut in *Rigoletto* in 2009, and that same year, under the baton of James Levine, portrayed Scarpia in *Tosca*—a performance that was broadcast to movie theaters around the world, allowing many viewers to enjoy the production. Since then, he has performed at opera houses around the world, including La Scala in Milan and the Vienna State Opera, mastering a wide range of roles with a focus on Verdi’s operas. He made his first visit to Japan in 2007, singing the role of Germont in *La Traviata* (concert performance), In 2013, he accompanied La Scala’s tour to Japan, singing Rigoletto, and in 2015, he sang the title role in *Falstaff* at the New National Theatre, where he received rave reviews, solidifying his reputation as a Verdi singer. This album centers on the Verdi arias in which he excels, but he also showcases new facets of his artistry with his rich, lustrous voice, performing arias ranging from Italian operas by Leoncavallo and Giordano to Wagner’s “Song of the Evening Star.” Naxos Japan
