An evolution of the "Side-Eye" project, which aims to collaborate with outstanding young musicians, the album centers on a trio featuring Metheny (guitar), Chris Fishman (keyboards), and Joe Dyson (drums). The strong musical bond these three have cultivated through their live performances forms the foundation of the album. Metheny himself comments: “The core energy of this music comes from the three of us playing together. My ongoing relationship with Joe Dyson, in particular, has been incredibly significant. His playing is deeply rooted in the traditions of his hometown, New Orleans. Thanks to that spirit, I’ve been able to reach my own Kansas City sensibility in a way I haven’t before. This music is complex and meticulously crafted, yet it also flows very naturally.
