Description:

The year 2014 marks the 150th anniversary of the birth of Richard Strauss (1864-1949). While various Strauss albums have been released by various companies, BR KRASSIK is proud to present the "Alpine Symphony" and the "Four Symphonic Interludes on Intermezzo" conducted by Welser-Möst. The "Alpine Symphony," premiered in 1915, is Strauss's greatest symphonic poem and symphony, and was based on an experience he had while climbing a mountain in the German Alps at the age of 14 or 15 in Zugspitze, so it is fair to say that it is a work of great length, completed after about 35 years of planning. The entire piece is performed seamlessly, from the dawn of the mountain, through descriptions of waterfalls, pastures, and other landscapes, to reaching the summit after getting lost, only to be struck by a storm. Then, the group descends the mountain in the face of an onslaught of storms, and finally reaches the sunset.Of course, Strauss's brilliant and exquisite orchestration depicts every scene in full detail, allowing the listener to enjoy "virtual mountain climbing" in the comfort of his or her own home. The "Intermezzo," on the other hand, is a rarely performed opera that tells a "personal story" of Strauss, and the "Symphonic Interlude" is a lively and wonderful piece of music in which every phrase is an eloquent work of art. This too is sure to catch the ear. Mesto's conducting emphasizes expressiveness, valuing each phrase and scene rather than moving the music with vigor. Please enjoy the stunningly beautiful sound.
