The long-awaited new concerto album by Rudolf Buchbinder, a master of the Viennese tradition of pianism in the modern age, features two piano concertos by Brahms, one of the three major B composers he is best known for. The two concertos are performed together by the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Zubin Mehta, a golden combination. Buchbinder is so devoted to Brahms's piano concertos that he owns their autographs, and has recorded them live with the Arnoncourt/Concertgebouw Orchestra in 1998/99 and with Mehta/Israel Philharmonic Orchestra in 2009, but this is a live performance from a concert in Vienna in March 2015. This is a live performance, and at this time Buchbinder accomplished the amazing feat of playing two of these major works in one evening. The performance was acclaimed as "Brahms has rarely sounded so perfect" and "a milestone for Buchbinder" (Vienna Courier), and Buchbinder himself said, "I am finally satisfied with Brahms.
