Released via Jagjaguwar, *SABLE, fABLE* is the project’s first album in six years and features a love story set to fresh, radiant pop music. Beginning with the three-song EP *SABLE,* released last fall, the album seamlessly unfolds into a new nine-song saga where one becomes two, darkness transforms into salmon-colored beauty, and sorrow turns into unbridled joy. Whereas *SABLE,* was a fragile and solitary break from the pain that had long defined the past, *fABLE* looks toward a vibrant future filled with light, purpose, and possibility—one that includes a partner, new memories, and perhaps even family. Ahead of the release, Bon Iver will officially usher in the “fABLE” era this Valentine’s Day with “EverythingIsPeacefulLove.” The single will be released alongside a music video shot and edited by John Wilson, the cinematographer behind HBO’s *How to with John Wilson*. Produced by Justin Vernon and Jim-E Stack, *SABLE, fABLE* was recorded primarily at Vernon’s AprilBase in Wisconsin. The concept for this album was born on 2.22.22 (February 2, 2022), when Stack arrived at AprilBase with Danielle Haim. Over the course of several snow-covered days, Vernon and Haim’s voices intertwined on “If Only I Could Wait.” This duet is a song that offers a crucial perspective: “Outside the glow of new love, we lack the strength to become the best versions of ourselves.” If *SABLE,* is the prologue, then *fABLE* is the book. However, *SABLE,fABLE*, taken as a whole, is an album—not a fairy tale. There may be undeniable healing in becoming absorbed in something—and in the intense clarity, focus, honesty, and blessing that this brings to these songs. “EverythingIsPeacefulLove” is a portrait of a man overwhelmed by happiness after meeting the person he falls in love with. Yet the shadow of *SABLE,* still looms; even as he strives to reset and start anew, old emotions may resurface. Like a fable, each track instills a lesson. *fABLE* sings of the selfless rhythm required when engaging with others or a lover—that is, the patient commitment to finding the pace needed to become a better person, and a sense of oneness. Gone are the evasive, dense layers of sound that once shielded Justin Vernon’s voice on *i,i* and *22,AMillion*. *SABLE,fABLE* is a canvas that lays the truth bare.
