Description:

Dave Liebman - Richie Vairak, 50th anniversary of their collaboration! The first full-fledged attempt at a classical masterpiece, a groundbreaking work of original interpretation of classical music as jazz and improvisation musicians, respect for the music, superb arrangements, rich inspiration of the moment, and sensitive expression. This is the 50th anniversary of Dave Liebman and Richie Baillyak's collaboration. Richie Baillyak himself has said, "I'm delighted to be able to play with him again, after so many years of collaboration, and still stronger than ever before." What they have brought together is one of the greatest collaborations of our time, and one of the most brilliant in jazz history. This is a work in which these two artists take on a masterpiece of classical music. Like many pianists, Bairak has studied classical music for 13 years, since the age of 5. Both Liebman and Bairak have played classical pieces, but this is the first time they have concentrated on them. In other words, this work is positioned as a new challenge for both of them after 50 years. The music selected ranges from Bach to Bartók. According to Baillyak, "Can we honor the iconic composers of 400 years ago while keeping the work fresh and contemporary? The 11 pieces, which range from Baroque to contemporary music and look back several hundred years, are a unique interpretation of the history of classical music as a jazz musician, and the performance shows creativity that transcends genres. The result is a richly inspired, sensitive, and moment-by-moment expression of the artist, who has built a career around improvised music and a respect for the music, as well as superb arrangements. The recording was made at CMP Studios in the Tsakal Forest near Niedecken, Germany. With a wonderful Bechstein piano, a superb tuner and engineer, and in a perfect environment, the performances were produced without wasting any creative energy at all. A new milestone for an artist who never loses his freshness despite his age. Here is the great crystallization of an improvisational musician, even though he almost never rehearsed.
