Description:

The blockbuster of the 100th anniversary of Karajan's birth! The 1957 Salzburg Festival Live Box, including the first-ever recordings of the Bru 8 with the Vienna Philharmonic and the Honegger "Liturgische Style" with the Berlin Philharmonic, and more, The year 1957 was the first season in which Karajan embarked on a full-fledged reform of the Salzburg Festival, following his appointment as Artistic Director the previous year, and it was also the first appearance at the Festival of the Berliner Philharmoniker, his mainstay. This set includes four concerts from this year's Salzburg Festival, of which CD2, Mozart, and CD3, Brahms, have been previously reissued by DGG and EMI, respectively, but the others are all first-time releases.Bruckner's Eighth with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra at the Festival Theatre is even more appealing than usual, with a confident and commanding approach. The soaring Adagio is also very moving. Karajan and the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra also performed the same program on April 17 of the same year at the Musikvereinsaal (ANDANTE out of print), and the two performances lasted about the same time (80.5 minutes). Comparisons with later recordings (1979 and 1988) show that the entire performance was about three minutes faster. Even more interesting is the live performance at the Mozarteum on August 13 with the Berlin Philharmonic. Onegel, who is good at what he does, first asked if this was Karajan? The Berlin Philharmonic? I couldn't believe my ears at first. This is the best sample of Karajan's greatness at that time.Fans will also be delighted to hear the world premieres of Einem and Berger, both of which are Karajan's only recordings of the composer's solo performances by Mrs. Bracher Herzog. Karajan was Artistic Director of the Berlin Philharmonic, General Director of the Vienna State Opera, and Artistic Director of the Salzburg Festival. This is a glorious document that marks the beginning of the "emperor" era, and together with "Fidelio" (ORFEOR771082) on July 27 and "Falstaff" (ORFEOR772082) on August 10, both to be released at the same time, this is the best pair of recordings to decorate this anniversary year. The "Falstaff" (ORFEOR772082) on August 10 will be one of the best pairings to mark the anniversary. [Comment courtesy of King International Inc.
