Salieri's song cycle! As expected from Schubert's master, all are masterpieces! Take your time with fortepiano accompaniment! Antonio Salieri (1750-1825) was a poor man who was suspected of Mozart's assassination and was disgraced as a mediocre Italian composer against the genius Mozart. In reality, he was a great composer who was active at the court of Vienna for half a century. Although he has a strong image as a composer of Italian opera, his works are in fact very diverse. This CD contains his songs. Three languages are used: Italian, German, and French. The main part is a collection of songs entitled Divertimento for voice. It is a collection of 28 songs with music to Italian poems, mainly by Metastasio, and was published in Vienna in 1803. Fifteen of these songs are included in this collection. They are all masterpieces with a sense of liveliness and vitality in their elegance.The three-minute song, with the long title "The Spirit of the Venetian State as the Austrian Army Marched on Venice in January 1798," is about Napoleon, commander of the Italian Area Army, who destroyed the Venetian Republic (which was in effect under Austrian rule) and gave Venice to Austria in a peace treaty. The remarkable thing about the song is that it is a German song. Salieri is also known as Schubert's teacher, and if you listen to Salieri's lieder, you will understand how Schubert learned and inherited so much from Salieri. Ilse Ahrens is a soprano born in Belgium in 1982. She has performed in a wide range of repertoire, especially at the Théâtre de la Monnaie. Annelie Sofie Müller is a mezzo-soprano born in Freiburg, Germany. She is active with the Berlin Komische Oper. Ulrich Eisenlohr is a German pianist. He is very well known as an accompaniment pianist, and dozens of CDs with him have already been released.He plays fortepiano in this collection of songs by Salieri. King International
