New Mompou by the Spanish virtuoso Perez The new Mompou, a supreme Spanish composer treasure, is performed by the virtuoso Luis Fernando Perez, who was born in Madrid in 1977. A familiar face at the La Folle Journée Music Festival, this remarkable pianist is steadily gaining fans for his performances and personality. Perez first encountered the music of Montpauw when he was a child after hearing it on the radio. He says he was fascinated by Mompou's music, which has "unique harmonies, mysterious sounds, colors, delicacy, 'swing,' freedom, and bell tones...the true power that only folk songs have. He later learned that it was "song and dance" performed by Mompou himself, and he became even more fascinated. He also asked his teacher, La Rocha, who was also a Montpau player, to teach him about Montpau. He visited his wife, Carmen, before her death, and she encouraged him to record all of his works. This recording is the first of many. Perez boldly unleashes the rich world hidden in Mompou's music with his intense and deep tone.This is a piece that makes one realize that Montpauw's works, described as "delicate" and "tranquil," contain such beautiful harmony and rich songs.
