Asynchrone, a French 6-piece group, has released "Plastic Bamboo," a tribute album to Ryuichi Sakamoto, on the prestigious No Format! This remarkable album includes songs from "A Thousand Knives," "B-2 Unit," and "Dream on the Left Ude," as well as songs from the YMO era, "Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence," and more! Ryuichi Sakamoto's special talent was recognized worldwide long ago, but with his passing, some people are finally realizing the artist's greatness. Longtime fans of the maestro, they began to question his work in 2020 with the goal of getting inside his music and taking it to a new, unexplored dimension. The timing of this release, coming after the death of one of the world's most beloved contemporary Japanese composers, is fortuitous. While the album can certainly stand as a de facto tribute to his singular career and person, that was not the original intent. This is not a somber eulogy, but a record for the future, full of lively possibilities. It seeks to continue the musical conversation now that the composer is gone.This is a tribute album, so to speak, consisting only of 11 songs composed by Ryuichi Sakamoto (including some co-written works). It is interesting to note that this French six-piece group concentrates on works released in the early stages of their career, from 1978 to 1983. Including the albums "A Thousand Knives" - "B-2 Unit" - "Dream on the Left Udder" and three songs from the Yellow Magic Orchestra era, TR4,8 have vocals as in the original songs. The album includes not only well-known songs such as "Behind the Mask," "MerryChristmas Mr. Lawrence," and "Riot in Lagos," which were covered by Michael Jackson and Greg Philrigeans, but also "Neue Tanz," "Once in a Lifetime" and "Differencia. As the name of the group and the title of Sakamoto's album are derived from the same root word.Frederic Soulard, the core of the group, has worked on several releases by the French label Tigersushi, as well as on the latest works by LucasSanttana and Msaki+Tubatsi. He is one of the most adaptable and innovative cellists working in France today, having worked with Romane, Ara Ni, Lisa Papineau (Jun Miyake's recent work), Ben Roncoursoul, Brick Bassi, and many others.
