Omri Mor

Description:

Naive, France, finally presents the memorable first leader album by one of the best pianists to come out of Israel, Omri Moll! As far back as the mid-2000s, he also appeared as part of The Omar Avital Marlon BrowdenProject. Omri Moll played keyboards for the group, which also included trumpeter Avishai Cohen. She also came to Japan in October 2017 to perform at the Blue Note as a member of bassist Avishai Cohen's trio. Many of his fans will remember his name anew. This album is Omri's full-fledged work. The bassist, Avishai, plays a central role, and Karim Ziad, a genius born in Algeria who also participated in the Zawinul Syndicate, plays the drums. This debut album has a fullness that does not betray expectations at all. This is an acoustic jazz piano trio sound based on roots Israeli melodies, rhythms, and harmonies, intermingling melancholy and festivity! (except M3.5.7). From the opening intro, which starts with Avishai's arco/bowed bass and a melancholy Jewish feel, you will surely be transported to Omri's roots! The groove is strong as the band members work together as one, while Middle-Eastern based rhythms are intermingled in every direction. On the one hand, the fluent phrasing shows a solid foundation in classical and jazz music, and on the other hand, the composition is a masterpiece of brilliant improvisation that weaves its way through the piece with great vigor. The compositional power of the band is evident in the second track, "Atlas," which begins at a medium tempo reminiscent of butoh music and builds to a storm of dazzling phrases and percussive percussive percussive keys. On the other hand, there is a slow ethnic ballad featuring Avishai Cohen's acoustic bass, and a song that evokes the bustling streets of Morocco, featuring vocals. M7 is a body of world crossover fusion. However, what is consistent throughout is an acoustic expression that pursues the expression of the roots. The last song, "You, the Night, and the Music," is a classic standard, but it closes beautifully with an ethnic and classical mood. This is a remarkable work that shows the potential of the acoustic piano trio pioneered by Digran Hamasyan!
