The "Wizard of the Fingertips" Tharaud performs Satie's works in this re-release of a recording from 2008. The music of Satie is stylish, melancholy, full of esprit, and somewhat eerie. Come to think of it, there are probably few pianists who are as well suited to Satie's music as Tharaud. Tharaud's outstanding sense of style allows him to portray the ever-changing nuances and stylishness of the music with a prismatic ease. The piano solo alone is enjoyable enough, but the splendid collaborators in the "Duo" of disc 2 are also noteworthy. The duo with Le Sage is a perfect match in breath, tone, and sense. I couldn't help but take my hat off to them and wonder what happens when a really good Frenchman plays a French piece. Juliette is a chanson singer whom Tharaud praises as "the ideal Satie singer," and she sings with a great atmosphere reminiscent of an old Parisian café. Isabelle Faust is a transformative performer in "What You See on the Right and on the Left. The violin is an instrument with an unexpected sonority.Guerrier's trumpet is also superb.
