Compilation of Marriner & ASMF Handel Albums 19 CD Box Set The British conductor Neville Marriner, who will celebrate the 100th anniversary of his birth in 2024, will release a collection of Handel albums recorded with the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields, which he founded in 1959, on the Decca labels Ouazorille, Argo, and Philips. 19 CD box set. Limited edition. Recordings range from 1961 to 1997. Included are orchestral works, concertos, the opera "Acis and Galatea," the oratorio "Messiah," the oratorio "Jephthah," "Coronation Anthem," and more. The 18th century music is beautifully performed by oboist Roger Lord, keyboardist Thurston Dart, and versatile choral conductor and harpsichordist George Malcolm.The vocal works include the oratorio "Messiah" by Ellie Armeling and Philip Langridge, the opera "Acis and Galatea" by Jill Gomez and Robert Thier, and the oratorio "Jephtha" by Anthony Rolf Johnson and Emma Kirkby, all featuring distinguished singers. The tenor singer Tier will sing in the opera "Aeschylus and Galatea. Tenor Thier also sings German and English arias, as well as Handel excerpts from Dmitri Horostovsky's 1997 album of Italian Classical Lieder. Other albums include a 1971 album combining "Music for the Royal Fireworks" and "Music on the Water," ballet music from "Ariodante" and "Alcina," and a 1978 collection of double concertos; the two choruses from "Messiah" on CD 19 were recorded in Dublin for Phillips' complete oratorio recording of the This is an interesting recording made in the studio for promotional purposes.
