A world premiere recording of a baroque opera conducted by recorder player Dorothee Oberlinger! This is the world premiere recording of the Baroque opera "Polifemo" by composer Giovanni Battista Bononcini (1670-1747), whose 350th birthday is this year 2020. Bononcini moved to the court of Queen Sophia Charlotte in Berlin, where he became the queen's favorite composer. His "Polifemo" was performed in 1702 at the Rittenburg Palace, later the Charlottenburg Palace, before Queen Charlotte of Prussia. Galatea, a sea nymph, and Ach, a young shepherd, are lovers. However, Polyphemo, an ugly one-eyed giant who is infatuated with Galatea, kills her in a fit of jealousy. Galatea grieves. But it is told that her father, the god of the sea, turned Aci's blood into the flow of a river, and in the sea where the water flows in, she can always be with him... A magician of jealousy, a goddess of love, and others appear, creating a miraculous story based on the Roman mythology of the Metamorphosis.Polyphemo is an opera in one act, but it consists of a total of 20 songs: 17 arias, 2 duets, and 1 chorus. This performance, given at the 2019 Potsdam Sanssouci Palace Festival, was conducted by the renowned recorder player Dorothee Oberlinger and performed by her and the Ensemble 1700, which she formed with period instrumentalists and outstanding young singers, and was highly praised: "She is flexibility as well as the recorder! Brilliance! Energy! The surprises never stop. Lovely, unique rhythmic music with pleasant melodies, performed at its best by the strong and colorful ensemble of Dorothee Oberlinger and others" ("Die Welt").
