Description:
Bill Frisell First solo album in 18 years is all original US guitar heavyweight Bill Frisell's new album "Music IS". This is Bill's first solo album in 18 years, since "Ghost Town" released in 2000, and features all original songs. When You Wish Upon a Star" with Petra Haden. Bill says, "Going solo is always a challenge." The recording took place in August 2017 at Flora Recording and Playback, Tucker Martine's studio in Portland, Oregon. Produced by longtime tag-team partner Lee Townsend. Commenting on the album, which was completed with the support of his most trusted colleagues, he said. For me, music is always about how you do things with people. It's like having a conversation. A call and response. It's like a different dimension to play alone. You have to change your mindset quite a bit. Prior to this recording, we played a week at The Stone in New York City. Every night I played a song I had never played before. Intentionally, I kept myself in a slightly unstable state. Uncomfortable, insecure. I didn't want to settle for what I knew was safe. I wanted to bring that flow straight into the studio. I didn't want to plan everything in advance." The songs on the album are not only new, but also re-recordings of songs from the early days of ECM's first album releases, such as "In Line" and "Rambler".'It was clear from the beginning that I wanted to record songs that I had written. For the past few years, I have had so many projects with songs written by others. But it was time to get back to my own music. I've been playing music for over 50 years. I've been doing music for over 50 years, and I'll never fully understand it. The great thing about getting older is that you can revisit things you heard and played long ago. There is always something new to discover and uncover. New paths open up. If you're really lucky, you might find that you've mastered something along the way. Bill has been at the forefront of jazz guitarists since the 1980s, and his musical style is one-of-a-kind, incorporating diverse tastes such as progressive folk, roots, and noise music. The music of Bill Frisell, a guitarist who focuses on the essence of the music and follows his own path, is full of joy.
