This is the third consecutive year that the Symphony No. 3 has won the BBC Music Magazine Award ("Dutilleux: The Wolf" [RCHSA5263/CHSA5263], "Respighi: The Roman Trilogy" [RCHSA5261/CHSA5261], and John Wilson and his reunited "Sinfonia of London" continue to make remarkable strides with the worldwide acclaim of their first concert at the BBC Proms in 2021, and their next release is "Rachmaninoff"! The main work on this album is "Symphony No. 3", the famous masterpiece of Rachmaninoff's last years. Rachmaninoff was exiled to the U.S. after the Russian Revolution of 1917, and his busy performing and conducting schedule prevented him from devoting himself to composing as much as he would have liked.The Third Symphony, completed in 1936 and largely written in a villa on the shores of Lake Lucerne in Switzerland, is the culmination of the composer's life, with a more complex and refined orchestral style that is somewhat removed from the sweet Russian romanticism of his famous Symphony No. 2 and Piano Concerto No. 2. It is the culmination of the composer's life.
