This is music for contemplation for all those seeking a moment of peace, an album reminiscent of the bestseller "Chant - The Singing of the Heavens" from 2008. The "Celebrated Conception" by Perotinus features mezzo-soprano Cecilia Bartoli. This is the first time that the Sistine Chapel Choir and conductor Massimo Palombella have invited a female singer for a recording. Although it is clearly documented that there were no women in the Sistine Chapel Choir during the Renaissance, there is evidence that women may have sung in the Middle Ages. It was there that Palombella and Bartoli arrived at the composer Perotinus for this unique collaboration.Bartoli's clear, attractive voice blends curiously with the voices of the choir and the chapel, making the century-old songs sound fresh and contemporary. The recording is based on original handwritten scores by the Sistine Chapel Choir, kept in the Vatican archives from the 11th to 17th centuries, and is the first recording of its kind in the world.
