The Stamitz family, a musical dynasty that originated in Bohemia, was active in the late 18th century as central members of the so-called Mannheim School across two generations. This album, featuring viola concertos written by father Jan Václav (1717–1757) and his sons, the brothers Karl (1745–1801) and Anton (1750–1789 or 1809), is both exquisitely beautiful and technically masterful. The rich content of this album demonstrates that they were among the finest violinists and violists of their time. The soloist, Pierszka, is a renowned musician who served for many years as a concertmaster with the Prague Symphony Orchestra and is also known as a member of the Stamitz Quartet.
