The Great Legacy Left by a Russian Empress: “Lydia Moldkovich Tribute” Lydia Moldkovich (1944–2014), one of Chandos’s founding artists, was born in Russia, studied under the master David Oistrakh, lived in Israel, and settled in the United Kingdom in 1980. She made over 60 recordings from the early days of Chandos, helping to shape the label’s history with a focus on Russian music. The “Lydia Moldkovich Tribute” series is being launched to pass on Lydia Moldkovich’s great legacy to future generations. Moldkovich recorded not only the music of her homeland, Russia, but also a great deal of music from the United Kingdom, where she spent her later years. This two-disc set features four British violin concertos—including the world premiere recording of John Veale (1992–2006)—alongside works by Arnold Bax, George Dyson, and Arthur Bliss, showcasing a lineup that is truly unique to Chandos.
