Orly Shaham, the sister of Gil Shaham and a talented pianist, performs works by two American composers she deeply admires on this album. Steven McKee is a friend of hers. While Orly was pregnant with twins, she was deeply moved by his music; immediately after giving birth, she asked him to compose a piece for her, and the result was “Stumble to Grace.” McKee observed her newborn sons and successfully captured the process of a human learning to walk in five musical stages. Needless to say, Orly performed the premiere. The album also includes “Sneaky March”—which could be considered a sequel to this piece—as well as Adams’s masterpieces “Hallelujah Junction” and “China Gates.” The result is a delightful album sure to bring a smile to everyone’s face.
