Gardiner's two-year-long "Brahms and His Pioneers" project has simultaneously featured works not only by Brahms, but also by other composers who influenced him. The main program of this year's concert, No. 4, will be a collection of works by Brahms and his pioneers, including the works of his influential composers. The main program of this year's concert, the Fourth Symphony, is heavily influenced by Baroque music. The last movement is directly influenced by the chorus of Bach's Cantata No. 150, "My eyes are ever fixed on the Lord," and also owes much to Beethoven's Coriolan Overture.Gardiner discusses this in detail in the booklet, suggesting the minutes of the disc. It is also a surprising fact that Brahms liked to conduct the works of Gabrieli and Schütz. The influence of their works can be heard in Brahms' religious songs. It goes without saying that the performances of each piece are excellent, but the organic significance of all the programs enhances the appeal of Brahms and each of his works to each other, making this one of a kind disc many times more valuable.
