Overwhelming leadership! Mahler's "Resurrection" performed by Dudamel and the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra at the world heritage site of the Catalunya Concert Hall. A native of "El Sistema" in his native Venezuela, Dudamel has been the Music Director of the Los Angeles Philharmonic since 2009, and now conducts top-notch orchestras around the world. At the end of June 2020, he was scheduled to visit Japan with the Berlin Philharmonic to perform "Resurrection". Dudamel has conducted Mahler's symphonies frequently since he was a teenager, and in this performance it is clear that he has them completely under his control. The Munich Philharmonic's powerful tone was highlighted by Dudamel's skillful conducting, which was richly slow and moderately restrained. The highlight of the performance is the 5th movement. The orchestra, soloists, and chorus all worked together beautifully to produce an energetic performance. Soprano Chen Reiss and mezzo-soprano Tamara Mumford are also excellent solo singers, and their stable singing, vocal volume, and persuasive power are superb.Don't miss the superb harmonies of the local choir, the Catalan Chorus of the Catalan Music Hall Chamber Choir.
