Louise Falanques, a French woman composer, was born into a noble artistic family that produced a family of great sculptors from the mid-17th century to the Romantic period. She began her career as a concert pianist, piano teacher (the first female professor of piano at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris), and composer, and left behind a wealth of orchestral works, including three symphonies, and many important chamber works. The two trios on this album, which combine woodwinds, cello, and piano, showcase the composer's brilliant imagination and her grounding in the classical and early romantic traditions of German music.
