The Oslo-based Norwegian Soloists’ Choir was founded in 1950 by composer Knut Nystedt. Their music, which brings their insightful interpretations to life with a rich, expansive sound, has been highly acclaimed, and the choir has been recognized as one of Norway’s and the Nordic region’s leading choral ensembles, as well as one of Europe’s foremost chamber choirs. Since 1990, Grete Pedersen has served as artistic director, continuing efforts to elevate the “artistry” that Nystrøm sought to achieve to even greater heights, while reflecting her own artistic vision. A collection of Grieg’s choral works (BISSA1661), a collection of works by Brahms and Schubert titled *In Autumn* (BISSA1869), *Refraction* (BISSA1970), featuring works by Valen, Messiaen, Webern, and Berg, *“Impressions of Norwegian Folk Music”* *White Nights* (BISSA1871), featuring fiddle player Jermun Raschen, and the Christmas album *Rose* (BISSA2029), BIS Records’ sixth release, *The Light of My Life*, consists primarily of music of mourning and was produced as an album that can be viewed as an “epitaph” for founder Nystrøm, who passed away on December 8, 2014, at the age of 99.
